Peeking around yet another corner before coming off of the wall that she had just been leering past, and wandering into the alley way, Kate had been on a mission for the last two days now to find her next shelter. Running a hand through her sweaty and matted hair, the young girl was beginning to feel the weight of her journey in a more emotional manner. Having been alone for some time now she was beginning to wonder if there really was anyone else left, or if she would be forever alone. Maybe I should have just stayed at the college…the military might have sent in a rescue squad by now. After wandering down the enclosed path, Kate thought it might be best to take a breather. Not really wanting to be seen, she decided to take a seat alongside a large navy colored dumpster.
While waiting for the slight sting in her tired legs to subside a little, the brunette started to rummage through her bag for something to occupy herself. Settling on pulling her hair back, Kate grabbed one of the hair ties she had managed to grab before heading out, and swept up the mass of her un-washed hair into a ponytail. This is the longest she had gone without a shower, but given the circumstances she couldn’t find enough motivation to care. Everything she knew, and possibly, everyone she loved was gone now and there was nothing she could do to change it.
This realization caused a few tears to roll down Kate’s dirt stained cheeks. She was quick to wipe them away, not wanting to have a pity party just yet. From what she could tell she was almost out of the city and closer to the outskirts, closer to home. If she could just get back then maybe she could get some glimpse of her past life back. Taking on a new found sense of ambition, Kate stood up once more and stared to move. Almost home…

A world I once knew, I home I once had I WON'T ALLOW ANOTHER PERSON AROUND ME TO PERISH
The days were becoming tedious with just El and Alyson alone. It was not the best of plans, but it had been decided long ago that the blond would travel alone by day to gather supplies for their new found ‘home’ while Alyson stayed safe and did whatever kept her busy. Days passed and every time something would be a little different in their hide out. A chair would be moved or a little less dust would consume the walls. After long days of seeing such destruction and corpses cover the streets, it brought a little warmth to her heart to see these little attempts.
The sun threatened to set behind the buildings, something that was never a good time to be out. It was the worst when the darkness consumed the earth. Refuge was not but a couple miles from where she stood so long as she persevered and took her safe routes. As she passed one of the many obliterated buildings, rustling was heard between the structures. Her hand instinctively clasped tighter on her walking stick as her figure was pressed roughly against the wall. There was never such a thing as too cautious at this point and there was no telling who or what was down the alley.
After a long moment of silence, she let out a long, quiet exhale and took careful steps forward. The aching inside her cheek was becoming unbearable from the force of her biting her cheek so hard. Within seconds, she spun on her heel and was facing the stranger with blade extended. Only after many moments of staring did she realize that this was no monster or zombie but still a human. What truly struck her was the uncanny similarity this strangers features were to her waiting friend back at home.
“ALYSON! What in god’s name are you doing?!” Screaming so loud was very careless but so much furry bellowed within her that she couldn’t hold back. The sword was re-sheathed as she stepped forward and snatched the girls back. “Dammit I thought we agreed that I would run the errands and you would stay home!! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!” Her chest was heaving while her throat felt raw from screeching so loud. She questioned if she really wanted to wait for a reply or just continue her rant.

The end of the alley was so close, but without a moments notice, Kate’s chances of getting to her destination seemed slim to none. A young blonde appeared from around the corner, blade drawn. It was almost the same as looking down the barrel of a gun. Kate had no idea what else to do except put her hands up and keep as still as possible. Please let her have some humanity left in her. The backpack of stuff she had on her back was beginning to feel rather heavy. There was no more contents now then there had been moments before, it was just a mental thing. Maybe if I offer her my stuff she'll leave. Kate was plotting out her words carefully, but never got to get a single one of them out before the blonde grabbed a hold of the bag she had just been considering handing over and started to scream about being out when she wasn't supposed to be. Ordinarily Kate might have been upset or at the very least bothered to fight back. But when she heard the name Alyson, the name of her sister, Kate returned the grabbing gesture by taking the blonde’s free arm rather firmly, hoping it would get her attention. “That name, Alyson, do you know where she is?"
It was a stupid question. The obvious answer was yes. It was just that there was no way her new company could have been talking about any other Alyson. It was almost too good to be true. The only person that she had seen since leaving the campus, just so happened to know where her little sister was. “My name is Kate by the way, and Aly is my little sister. I need to know where she is can you take me to her?" Any rational behavior she had left in her, was now gone, replaced with this fast winded eagerness that demanded to be dealt with now. Okay Kate, take it down a notch, we don't want to scare her.
With that thought crossing her mind, Kate let go of the blonde finally, hoping that she hadn't been to forceful. “Sorry about that...the grabbing you thing I mean, I just...never mind...can you help me?" Coming off of her momentary high, the brunette gave a quick glance around to make sure that no walkers had found them. It was be a shame to have come this far only to die.
